Quality Review of IUQB

Introduction

In 2006, IUQB requested the Higher Education Authority to commission an external evaluation of its activities so as to facilitate an IUQB application for full membership of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).

The positive outcome of the review facilitated IUQB's successful application for full membership of ENQA in June 2009. In September 2009, IUQB published a progress report on the implementation of the recommendations contained within the Report of the external panel.

On 7th October 2009, IUQB was accepted onto the European Quality Assurance Register EQAR. The register provides students, higher education institutions and the public with clear and reliable information on quality assurance agencies operating in Europe.  www.eqar.eu

 2. Review Process Outlined

As agreed in the Terms of Reference, the Quality Review process consisted of the following main elements:

• Commissioning of the review, including the appointment of the external panel of national stakeholders and international experts, by the Higher Education Authority
• A self-evaluation exercise by IUQB culminating in the production and publication of a Self-Evaluation Report
• Evaluation by an external panel following a site visit and the production of a report
• Consideration of the report of the panel by IUQB and the development of a quality improvement plan by IUQB to implement the recommendations in the panel report
• Consideration of the review report and the IUQB response by the Higher Education Authority (and the universities)
• Publication of the outcomes of the Review
